This is a long and complex text. It needs to be read slowly and carefully, pencil in hand, in its entirety before lectures commence in September. Here is the reading schedule I recommend for your preliminary reading:
- June: Volumes 1-3
- July: Volumes 4-6
- August: Volumes 7-9
A second in-depth reading may then begin in September.
Always make notes in a file as you read: underline your text, extract quotations, with their page numbers for future reference. As you read, fill in this outline with the page numbers of the set edition.
You can also refer to this "table of contents" compiled by Charles Parish to help you chart the narrative progression - and digressions - of each volume.
