Course description
The aim of this class is to go over the main difficulties of the English language with regards to verbal groups (tense, aspect, modality, verbal constructions) and to review the different elements which make up simple sentences (article, genitive, compound nouns, N of N,
superlative/comparative, quantifiers).
Each week, as homework, you will have:
- A grammar focus – this can be referred to as a module
- Related grammar exercises to prepare that are discussed in class the following week
Some of these elements may be simple revision and other elements may be new to you. In any case, the exercises are there to practice these points and they are compulsory homework.
In class, we will focus on the main difficulties of each grammar point and use authentic documents which show uses of the studied grammar points in context where applicable.
Make sure to always bring past texts to class, as we will refer back to them throughout the semester.
Assessment
Your assessment for this class will comprise of two written assessments each representing
50% of your grade, in weeks 7 (CC1) and 12 (CC2) of the semester.
Any absences on the day of these assessments must be justified with a document within seven days.
If you benefit from additional time for assessments, please let me know via email.
Your regular completion of homework will be taken into account in the form of a bonus point
on your final grade.
